Aomori FAQs

No backcountry experience? No problem! You don’t need touring or avalanche training to join, but you should be a confident skier or rider who can link turns and navigate variable, ungroomed terrain. This trip is about progression—your guide will help you level up your skills and backcountry knowledge throughout the week. Groups are small and organized by ability, fitness, and goals to ensure a fun, safe, and supportive experience.
-
On this trip, you will take the lifts up to an access gate. Therefore, you are only a bootpack away from the incredible, pristine terrain! For each lap, the bootpack can take between 30-50 minutes depending on your fitness level.
Skinning is not required, though it is accessible from the gate! If you do not have a split/touring setup, you can still access the backcountry via bootpack.
For guided groups, they will be determined by individuals with similar skill, goals, fitness, and equipment. Your guide will progress your skills and backcountry knowledge each day, and you can easily obtain several laps as the runs out of the gate drain back to the bottom of the lifts!

We recommend to NOT search for a flight straight to Bariloche as it will look much more expensive than it actually is! Follow these steps:
Compare flights from your city to both Buenos Aires and Santiago, with a separate ticket on arrival day to San Carlos de Bariloche.
You will need to depart your city to arrive in EZE or SCL on arrival day (flight time can be 10-16 hours), and leave at least 3 hours to clear customs and re-check your bags for your next flight to Bariloche.
Make sure your round trip ticket leaves at least 3 hours after you arrive back in EZE or SCL before departing for home.
Example: Your trip dates are August 16-23, 2025. You book a flight to depart North America on 8/15 and land in Santiago at 8am on 8/16. You book another flight that leaves Santiago for Bariloche at 2pm on 8/16. That return flight gets you back to Santiago at 6pm on 8/23, and your return flight from Santiago to North America departs at 9pm on 8/23.

You’ll stay at Base 41, hands-down the best lodging at the base of Cerro Catedral Resort. Just steps from the gondola and the vibrant nightlife, you’ll have your own bed, daily hot breakfast, and access to the only indoor/outdoor hot tub in the base area.
One highlight? A signature asado dinner with your new OLX crew in the cozy common area. It’s more than just a place to sleep—Base 41 is the heart of the trip and the perfect setting for connection, recovery, and stoke.
-
You’ll need a beacon, probe, shovel, and a backpack to carry them. If you don’t have your own, don’t worry! Rentals are available through us.
Splitboards or touring skis are optional. Most of the terrain is accessed via bootpack from the lift-accessed gate, so a traditional resort setup works just fine.
We highly recommend bringing your own skis or board and boots, as finding high-quality gear in Patagonia can be difficult. Your own setup will give you the best experience in the backcountry.

In a wild and epic place like Patagonia, it’s easy to waste time figuring things out. With OLX, everything’s dialed so you can focus on what matters: exploring jaw-dropping terrain with expert guides, leveling up your backcountry skills, and sharing unforgettable moments with like-minded riders.
You’ll enjoy lodge-style camaraderie, authentic local cuisine (including a classic asado), access to the safest and most fun zones, and arguably some of the best mountain views on Earth. Add in local knowledge, built-in progression, and a few surprises from OLX—and you’ve got the ultimate Patagonian ski adventure.
